Roundtable: Scientific Research in Clinical Hospitals

As part of the Horizon Europe Alliance4Life_BRIDGE project, a roundtable discussion entitled “Scientific Research in Clinical Hospitals: Advancing National Research Productivity and Supporting the Professional Development of Healthcare Professionals” will be held on 29 October 2026 at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine.

The roundtable will bring together deans, hospital directors, scientists, physicians, and representatives of the relevant ministries to discuss opportunities for strengthening scientific and research activities in clinical hospitals and medical faculties.

The discussion will focus on three main areas: the benefits of research in clinical hospitals for the scientific and clinical sectors, including access to clinical data and samples, the development of translational research, improved research outputs and opportunities for academic and professional development; the role of scientific units within hospitals, including existing models and examples of good practice; and the development of research infrastructure and dedicated scientific units in hospitals and medical faculties.

The discussion will also explore how stronger integration of research and clinical work can support the introduction of new diagnostic methods, technology transfer, the development of human resources and competencies, and greater competitiveness in national and international research funding programmes.
