About group Group members

The Alliance4Life Research Ethics and Integrity Focus Group brings together experts from member institutions to strengthen the culture of ethical research practices and integrity across the network. Members collaborate to share best practices, exchange innovative strategies, and enhance their collective expertise in fostering a robust framework for responsible research conduct. Together, they benchmark ethical standards, develop strategic guidelines, and implement initiatives that promote transparency, accountability, and trust in science.

The group provides peer training and engages external experts to build capacity in areas such as handling ethical dilemmas, ensuring compliance with regulations, and integrating integrity principles into daily research practices. Members also identify funding opportunities to address shared challenges, such as improving research governance or supporting training in ethical decision-making. As an advisory body, the Research Ethics and Integrity Focus Group offers guidance to work package and task leaders, ensuring that projects align with the highest ethical standards and contribute to a research environment that upholds integrity and excellence.

A professor at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, specializing in social medicine and healthcare organization, she also chairs FG2 - Research Ethics and Integrity in the A4L_BRIDGE project. She is the president-elect of the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine and Healthcare.

Renata Veselská

Masaryk University

A professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Masaryk University, she holds a Ph.D. in Genetics and an M.Sc. in Bioethics with a focus on Research Ethics. She chairs Masaryk University’s Research Ethics Committee, is vice-chair of the Czech Government’s Bioethics Committee, and has served on the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies.

Head of the Legal Department at FNUSA and a Ph.D. student in Bioethics at LF MU, she is a member of Focus Group 2 (Research Ethics & Integrity). Her work bridges academic expertise in bioethics with practical legal applications in healthcare, particularly focusing on the regulation of biomedical research in the Czech Republic.

Miroslav Vlček

Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences

A director at the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research at the Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, with a focus on neuro-endocrino-immune interactions and autoimmune diseases. He is a member of Alliance4Life's Focus Group 2, promoting research ethics and integrity, and also teaches at the Slovak Medical University and serves on the Ethical Committee of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

Anna Alichniewicz

Medical University of Lodz

A medical doctor and philosopher. Her research focuses on bioethics, phenomenology, and end-of-life issues. She teaches at the Medical University of Lodz, where she heads the Department of Bioethics. Her work includes studying human enhancement, gender stereotypes, and philosophical thanatology. She is a member of several bioethics committees and has led a major research project on bioethics in reproductive and terminal medicine. She also enjoys literature, music, and is a long-time vegetarian.

Monika Michałowska

A university professor at the Medical University of Łódź, her research focuses on bioethics, transhumanism, and medieval philosophy, exploring the ethical implications of new technologies and human enhancement. She leads interdisciplinary projects combining philosophy, bioart, and new media. Her work on Richard Kilvington's philosophy contributes to the history of philosophy, and she has received multiple national and international research grants. Outside academia, she enjoys cooking and food exploration.

With a background in biotechnology, her work focuses on experimental research and monitoring in water analysis and balneoclimatology. She is also a member of FG2 Research Ethics and Integrity.

Jelena Osmanović Barilar

University of Zagreb School of Medicine

An associate professor at the University of Zagreb's Department of Pharmacology, her research focuses on preclinical Alzheimer's disease studies and insulin signaling in neurodegeneration. She holds a medical degree from the University of Wϋrzburg and a PhD in biomedicine. She leads a Croatian research project on cognitive enhancement in Alzheimer's models.

A professor and leading researcher at the Institute of Translational Medicine, Vilnius University, he specializes in bioarchaeology, focusing on population biology, morbidity, and mortality in past populations. With over 40 years of research experience, he is a full member of the Academy of Sciences of Lithuania and editor-in-chief of Acta Medica Lituanica.

Eugenijus Gefenas

A professor and director of the Centre for Health Ethics, Law, and History at Vilnius University, he specializes in research ethics and integrity. He was a member of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies (2016-2021) and is currently the chair of the European Network of Research Ethics Committees. His recent work focuses on ethics in disaster research, new technologies, biobanking, and the evolving regulation of clinical trials and health data research.

Magdalena Kasnakova

Medical University - Sofia

An administrative project coordinator and Senior EU Project Manager at the Medical University of Sofia, responsible for executing Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ projects. She oversees project deliverables, participates in consortium meetings, and represents MU-Sofia in international networks. Holding a PhD in Comparative Politics, her research focuses on EU policy impacts on national politics and innovative methods in empirical data processing.

Līga Zvejniece

Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis

A leading researcher at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis with over 20 years of experience in pharmacological research, specializing in animal behavior studies and neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases. She is skilled in drug target discovery and preclinical drug evaluation. Līga Zvejniece chairs the LIOS Biomedical Research Ethics Committee and serves on several national scientific and ethics boards.
