About group Group members

The Alliance4Life Human Resources and Mobility Focus Group brings together experts from member institutions to advance best practices in HR management and researcher mobility across the network. Members collaborate to share insights, develop strategic frameworks, and enhance their collective expertise in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for researchers at all career stages. Together, they benchmark HR practices, design developmental strategies, and implement initiatives that strengthen career development opportunities and facilitate seamless mobility.

The group provides peer training and engages external experts to build capacity in areas such as recruitment, leadership development, and support for international researchers. Members also identify funding opportunities to address shared challenges, such as improving researcher onboarding processes or enhancing mobility programs. Acting as an advisory body, the Human Resources and Mobility Focus Group supports work package and task leaders by offering tailored expertise in HR strategies and mobility frameworks, ensuring that institutional practices align with global standards and contribute to the professional growth and well-being of researchers.

Barbora Wahlová

The International Clinical Research Center of St. Anne´s University Hospital

An HR expert with extensive experience in international corporations and personnel management, specializing in transformation projects. Since 2018, she has contributed to the research sector, implementing HR strategies at Masaryk University, and later joined FNUSA as an HR consultant. She also assesses institutions for the HR Excellence in Research Award and advises research institutions on HR strategies.

Silvia Vašulková

The International Clinical Research Center of St. Anne´s University Hospital

The Head of HR at the International Clinical Research Center (ICRC) at St. Anne's University Hospital Brno, Czech Republic, has been part of FG3 (HR & Mobility) within Alliance4Life since 2022. She focuses on efficient HR management and supporting growth initiatives within the science and research sectors. A law school graduate, she follows a positive outlook on life.

Marián Grman

Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences

The Scientific Secretary at BMC SAS. He contributes to strategies for improving HR management, attracting and retaining researchers, and supporting career development. He also oversees PhD studies and young researchers' programs, while contributing to the Green Lab strategy. Holding MSc and PhD degrees in Biomedical Physics and Biophysics, his research focuses on mitochondrial bioenergetics and redox biology. He has led two national grants.

The Head of Human Resources at the Medical University of Lodz is responsible for creating and implementing HR policies. With over 20 years of experience in HR in higher education, she is a member of the Alliance4Life HR Focus Group. She has implemented various HR tools and is passionate about lean management. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, sports, and reading.

Agata Wiśniewska

A Senior Specialist at the International Projects Department, she holds a master's degree in Sociology and postgraduate studies in HR Management. She manages European-funded projects, including EiT Health and Horizon Europe. Actively involved in the Reference Site Collaborative Network, she contributed to the HRS4R development and the four-star award application for the Medical University of Lodz.

University of Zagreb School of Medicine

An Associate Professor in the Department of Histology and Embryology at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine and Head of the Laboratory for Neurovascular Disorders at the Croatian Institute for Brain Research. She is a member of the A4L FG3 Human Resources and Mobility. Marina earned her PhD in neuroscience from UZSM, and her primary research focuses on cerebral and retinal ischemia.

Goran Šimić

University of Zagreb School of Medicine

A Professor of Neuroscience and Anatomy at the University of Zagreb Medical School and Head of the Neuroscience Department at the Croatian Institute for Brain Research. He leads the Laboratory for Developmental Neuropathology, focusing on developmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Šimić received his PhD in 1998 after three fellowships at the Karolinska Institute. He was Editor-in-Chief of Translational Neuroscience and received The Kurt Jellinger Prize in 2008.

Kristi Kuningas

The Head of the HR Office at the University of Tartu, she is a member of the 3rd focus group in the Alliance4Life project, focusing on career management, recruitment, diversity, and promoting women in science. Kristi holds degrees in Estonian Philology and Sociology, with over 20 years of experience teaching academic writing. She is active in the Euraxess Estonia network.

Karolis Ažukaitis

Vilnius University

Vice-Dean for Research and Innovation and associate professor of pediatrics at Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine, specializing in pediatric nephrology. His research focuses on early cardiovascular injury in children with chronic kidney disease and cardiometabolic risks. He is a council member of the European Society for Pediatric Nephrology and has completed fellowships at leading institutions worldwide.

Elina Zeltkalne-Ratniece

Joining Alliance4Life FG3 in 2024, she is also a member of the LIOS Ethics Committee. Additionally, she serves as Project Manager for the EU project WIDEnzymes. Elīna holds a Bachelor's degree in Business.

Janis Veliks

Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis

A Principal Researcher at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis and Assistant Professor at Riga Technical University, he specializes in synthetic organic and fluorine chemistry. After earning his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Zurich and completing postdoctoral research, he returned to Latvia in 2016 to continue his scientific contributions.

With over 95 publications and leadership in projects and programs like "Clinical Trials Management," she contributes extensively to research, teaching, and faculty development, including Erasmus coordination and accreditations.

A medical doctor and former ophthalmologist in Greece, now at the HTA Department of MU – Sofia, she focuses on exploring opportunities for research funding and collaborations.
