About group Group members

The Alliance4Life Grants and Research Funding Focus Group brings together experts from member institutions to enhance the capacity for securing and managing research funding in life sciences. Members collaborate to share best practices, exchange innovative strategies, and strengthen their collective expertise in navigating competitive funding landscapes. Together, they benchmark grant acquisition processes, develop strategic funding approaches, and implement joint initiatives to maximize success in securing resources for impactful research.

The group provides peer training and invites external experts to build skills in areas such as proposal writing, project management, and strategic alignment with funding priorities. Members also identify and share funding opportunities, addressing challenges such as diversifying funding sources or improving grant administration practices. Acting as an advisory body, the Grants and Research Funding Focus Group supports work package and task leaders by offering tailored expertise in funding strategies, ensuring that research projects are financially sustainable and well-positioned for success in advancing life sciences.

The International Clinical Research Center of St. Anne´s University Hospital

A Senior Grant Manager at the ICRC, part of St Anne’s University Hospital in Brno, supports national and international grant applications. With 10 years of experience in the Grant Office, he also chairs FG4 in the Alliance4Life initiative and is part of the Horizon Europe Health working group. His background spans academic, non-profit, and private sectors.

A Project Manager at BMC SAV oversees the management and administration of international projects and serves as the Main Contact for the institution. She is a member of FG4 - Grants and Research Funding. With a background in arts from Comenius University, her experience includes project management and serving as a National Contact Point within FP7.

Valentina Boyanova Petkova-Dimitrova

A graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University, she is an expert in pharmaceutical legislation with specializations in clinical and hospital pharmacy. She also holds master’s degrees in marketing, management, and public health. An author of over 300 scientific papers with 600+ citations, she has contributed to 12 EU and national research projects.

Ivanka Istalianova Dimova

A Full Professor of Medical Genetics since 2019, she has over 120 publications with a total impact factor exceeding 100, co-authored 15 textbooks, and supervised 19 theses. With experience from prestigious institutions in France and Switzerland, she has led 33 projects and spoken at 50+ congresses. As Head of Bulgaria’s first Genomic Diagnostics Laboratory, she pioneered whole-genome testing for rare diseases, cancer, and congenital anomalies.
